Kannur is one of the best tourist districts of Kerala. It has good historic background too.

Muzhappilangad Beach is just one of them which is parallel to National Highway 17 of India. Thus, you can just drive into the Muzhappilangad Beach and enjoy the beauty of it. The coconut plantation on the either sides of the beach gives us a special unforgettable experience.
The Muzhappilangad beach is simply ideal for swimmers. Even pioneers can think of learning swimming here in Muzhappilangad beach as it is a safe beach and there are life guards in the beach. The Muzhappilangad beach best suitable for a long beach drive for more than four kilometers.
The sunbath is the another feature of the Muzhappilangad beach which is enjoyed by many of the foreigners and the natives. This beach is also good for the practice of Yoga.
The Muzhappilangad Beach is only 15 kilometers from the city of Kannur. You can reach the place by air, train and road easily according to your choice. From the Kannur airport it takes 95 kilometers and from the Kannur railway station it takes 15 kilometers to reach the beautiful Muzhappilangad Beach.

Payyambalam Beach has secured a place in almost all the tourism related publications. The very reason behind it is that the Payyambalam Beach is one of the best beaches of the world. The natural beauty attracts not just tourists rather the natives too. It is seen that the natives give no due respect to the tourist places. But regarding Payyambalam Beach the case is different as even the natives have a special passion for the same. The natives of Payyambalam Beach leave their children free to play on the beach as it is safe and never a dangerous one.

There are many other tourist places near Payyambalam Beach which can also be visited as they are worth visiting. One of them is Ezhimala – the capital of ancient Mooshika kings – a historical place. Payyambalam Beach is the best recreating spot for the people of Kannur. It is historic as it was the centre of trade in the ancient Kerala. It was also one of the famous battle fields. It is believed that Payyambalam Beach was lucky enough to have been visited by Lord Buddha.

The beach garden of Payyambalam Beach is another attraction with its natural beauty. Its only 2 kilometers from the city of Kannur. The place is famous for the folk art and folk music.

Pythal Mala Hill Station

The state Kerala of India is famous for its hill stations and Pythal Mala Hill Station is very famous for trekking. We have good opportunities to show off our great talents in trekking. The enchanting Pythal Mala Hill Station is interesting as well as danger if you don’t take care. You have to trek for 6kms to touch the top of the hill. The government officials are now trying to set up a zoo at the top of Pythal Mala.

It is about 65kms from Kannur town. Pythal Mala Hill Station is 4500 feet above the see level. The beautiful hill station is now day by day becoming a hill resort. It has much potential too for better tourism. All the 365 days Pythal Mala Hill Station is cool and therefore we can trek enjoy ourselves greatly without any tiredness. The nearest airport to Pythal Mala Hill Station is the Calicut airport and the railway station just 65kms away in Kannur.

Valapattanam Backwaters

Valapattanam Backwaters, the main attraction of the district of Kannur is now the main attraction of Kerala tourism. The Valapattanam River originates in the Western Ghats of Kodagu. It is one of the lengthiest rivers of Northern Kerala. We have a great opportunity of boating in the Valapattanam Backwaters. The race starts from Parassinikadavu Temple. We can also stay overnight in the houseboats in Valapattanam Backwaters.

The Valapattanam Backwaters is only 7kms away from the city of Kannur. So, we can reach place via road. We can see the beautiful fishing harbor which very neat and clean near Valapattanam Backwaters. The largest wood-based industry of South East Asia is the other attraction of Valapattanam.

From ancient time Kannur builds all kinds of buildings including temple on timber. The timber industry of Valapattanam depends on the rich forest resources of the district Kannur. It is also a main source of irrigation in Kerala.

St. Angelo Fort

The St. Angelo Fort which just 3kms away from Kannur was built in 1505 by Francisco de Almeida. There are many historic aspects to understand from the St. Angelo Fort Kannur. You can get a clear picture of the battle fields of the ancient time. We can understand how the fighters saved themselves from the enemies and how they protested against them. There is a beautiful and historic chapel in side the fort.

The main attraction of the St. Angelo Fort is the exiting view of natural fishing bay. Today the St. Angelo Fort is protected as a monument by the Archeological Survey of India. We have all the housing and touring facilities near St. Angelo Fort. It is also known as the Kannur fort for better understanding. It is constructed very close to the see and separated and saved from the see with a very strong see wall. The Dharmadam island is good scenery from the Kannur or St. Angelo Fort. It is the best tourist spot of Kerala tourism. It is really a great loss to go anywhere without visiting St. Angelo Fort.
